is it safe to delete anything in /usr/portage/distfiles to make room on my hd? is there a portage command to do exactly that? _________________ gentoo linux - amd duron stalebred 1600 - elsa gladiac 311 (nvidia) - elitegroup k7s5a (sis, lan) - 256mb ram - wintv pci fm - airstar2 dvb-t pci - ide cdwriter - hp psc 1110 |

rm /usr/portage/distfiles/*

if you accidentally delete the folder called "cvs-src" in distfiles (like if you give rm the -r option) then it will jsut be re-created again later.
there is no harm in getting rid of the stuff in it. There is also no portage command that I know of, as the normal "remove" command works just fine. |

No... there is nothing in there that portage needs to know about. _________________ Research before taking any advice from me. I'm still coming to grips with this myself. |

Otherwise, one has to know about the command ...
Btw. there is eclean which can be used to remove outdated stuff from the distfiles. (See man eclean for details). eclean is part of gentoolkit. |
