Hi,
I am currently installing gentoo on my laptop. Doing this reminds me of a feature I wished at every install I've done so far: The gentoo 2006.0 install CD is pretty old now, so after an emerge --sync almost every package gets updated (I changed to ~x86, too, so it's really EVERY package).
Now there are some huge source files, e.g. for gcc, kernel-sources etc. Everytime the emerge process comes to a new package, it takes, depending on your internet connection, maybe several minutes to download that package. It would be nice to have all the source archives neede for an emerge process downloaded in the background while it's compiling in the foreground. I'm achieving this by the command on another console, but it'd be nice to see this done automatically.
Am I just missing a feature in portage that already does this, is work planned on this? _________________ "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one." |
