Most strange. Just a couple of questions (I assume you're running 8.54 shared)

  • . What does the output from:
    Code:

    opera --debugplugin &

    look like?
  • What does the following look like
    Code:

    cd /usr/lib/opera/plugins
    ldd operamotifwrapper
    ldd operamotifwrapper-3

  • No answers, just questions.

Hi,
I was able to solve "mostly" the flash problem,I got rid of every opera plugin that had "netscape" in his path,even symlinks didn't work,I had to copy by hand each plugin.

"Mostly" is because there is something wrong at the base imo.For example Google Video and YouTube works well untill I try to switch to fullscreen.In Fullscreen the same issue appears,the video keeps loading/buffering,I see data passing on my connection but nothing shows up,it simply doesn't load.If I close the fullscreen window the "small window" keeps buffering and nothing shows up again,I need to refresh the whole page in order to be able to watch the video (in normal mode again)...and btw Google Video Upload is broken.Damn it,yesterday I tried opera and was happy,today I'm realizing that is quite a crap using this thing.And I won't say nothing about all the css issue I had with my small and stupid blog,that uses a validated css ....

Howto solve the problem:
Thanks to Slegge's work, you have to remove the "netscape" path from the plug-in path in opera (Tools->Preferences->Content->Plug-in Options->Change Path). Then make symbolical links in /opt/opera/lib/opera/plugins:
Quote:
else@bluegene ~ $ sudo ln -s /opt/netscape/plugins/* /opt/opera/lib/opera/plugins/
else@bluegene ~ $ ls -lh /opt/opera/lib/opera/plugins/
insgesamt 236K
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 37 9. Jul 23:19 flashplayer.xpt -> /opt/netscape/plugins/flashplayer.xpt
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 39 9. Jul 23:19 libflashplayer.so -> /opt/netscape/plugins/libflashplayer.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 93K 2. Jul 23:50 libnpp.so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 43 9. Jul 23:19 mplayerplug-in-gmp.so -> /opt/netscape/plugins/mplayerplug-in-gmp.so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 44 9. Jul 23:19 mplayerplug-in-gmp.xpt -> /opt/netscape/plugins/mplayerplug-in-gmp.xpt
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 42 9. Jul 23:19 mplayerplug-in-qt.so -> /opt/netscape/plugins/mplayerplug-in-qt.so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 43 9. Jul 23:19 mplayerplug-in-qt.xpt -> /opt/netscape/plugins/mplayerplug-in-qt.xpt
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 42 9. Jul 23:19 mplayerplug-in-rm.so -> /opt/netscape/plugins/mplayerplug-in-rm.so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 43 9. Jul 23:19 mplayerplug-in-rm.xpt -> /opt/netscape/plugins/mplayerplug-in-rm.xpt
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 39 9. Jul 23:19 mplayerplug-in.so -> /opt/netscape/plugins/mplayerplug-in.so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 43 9. Jul 23:19 mplayerplug-in-wmp.so -> /opt/netscape/plugins/mplayerplug-in-wmp.so
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 44 9. Jul 23:19 mplayerplug-in-wmp.xpt -> /opt/netscape/plugins/mplayerplug-in-wmp.xpt
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 40 9. Jul 23:19 mplayerplug-in.xpt -> /opt/netscape/plugins/mplayerplug-in.xpt
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 30 9. Jul 23:19 nppdf.so -> /opt/netscape/plugins/nppdf.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 8,2K 2. Jul 23:50 operaplugincleaner
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 119K 2. Jul 23:50 operapluginwrapper

Now restart Opera. You should be able to see the videos at e.g. youtube.com. Works perfectly here!

If not: Check if the plugins are found by Opera, check the links.

ok guys i ran into a very weird problem when it comes to flash9 plugin and opera (weird things hapenned with other browsers aswell)
whenever i use opera to open a flash enabled page, the only thing i see is a grey square in the place where the flash content should be (example:http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/4426/365np6.jpg)

i've started opera with --debugplugin options and got this:
Code:
opera: [plugin path   ] #001: /opt/netscape/plugins
opera: [plugin path   ] #002: /opt/opera/lib/opera/plugins
opera: [plugin path   ] #003: /home/echovibes/.opera/plugins
opera: Search operapluginwrapper: [No] /opt/netscape/plugins/operapluginwrapper
opera: Search operapluginwrapper: [Ok] /opt/opera/lib/opera/plugins/operapluginwrapper
operapluginwrapper: [plugin probing] /opt/netscape/plugins/libflashplayer.so
opera: plugin detection successful: /opt/netscape/plugins/libflashplayer.so
operapluginwrapper: [plugin probing] /opt/opera/lib/opera/plugins/libnpp.so
opera: plugin detection successful: /opt/opera/lib/opera/plugins/libnpp.so
opera: [plugin path   ] #001: /opt/netscape/plugins
opera: [plugin path   ] #002: /opt/opera/lib/opera/plugins
opera: [plugin path   ] #003: /home/echovibes/.opera/plugins
opera: Search operapluginwrapper: [No] /opt/netscape/plugins/operapluginwrapper
opera: Search operapluginwrapper: [Ok] /opt/opera/lib/opera/plugins/operapluginwrapper

seems pretty ok to me, until i open a site with flash content, and i get all this:
Quote:
(process:28626): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: gtype.c:2215: initialization assertion failed, use IA__g_type_init() prior to this function

(process:28626): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_clipboard_get_for_display: assertion `GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed
Adobe FlashPlayer: gtk_clipboard_get(GDK_SELECTION_PRIMARY); failed. Trying to call gtk_init(0,0);
The program '<unknown>' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
(Details: serial 129 error_code 8 request_code 147 minor_code 3)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
opera: Plug-in 28626 is not responding. It will be closed.
opera: Define environment variable OPERA_KEEP_BLOCKED_PLUGIN to keep blocked plug-ins.

(this was the result i got when opening the site from the screenshot above)

here's some more info about what i have installed:
Quote:
[ebuild R ] www-client/opera-9.02 USE="spell -debug -gnome -qt-static"
[ebuild R ] net-www/netscape-flash-9.0.21.55 USE="gtk"

and the output of egrep "^[A-Z]+FLAGS" /etc/make.conf
Quote:
CFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium4m -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"

and my use flags:
Quote:
USE="-ldap -eds -gnome -gstreamer -bluetooth acpi aiglx aim alsa apm arts cdr crypt dbus dga dio dri dvd dvdr dvdread esd flac ftp gif gnutls gpm gtk gtk2 hal imagemagick imap java javascript jpeg jpeg2k kde lm_sensors mad mmx mp3 mpeg msn nas ncurses nptl nptlonly offensive ogg oggvorbis openal opengl oss pam pcmcia pdf png qt3 qt4 quicktime samba smartcard speex sse sse2 ssl svga tiff truetype usb vorbis win32codecs xmms xosd xvid X"

Ps: i can't see any site with flash contents on firefox-bin (it segfaults) and with konqueror i get the same grey squares i get in opera, and because of this i really didn't know where to post this, so i posted it here.
*EDIT* i've looked on a couple of other threads where ppl reported problems with opera and flash plugin, and i've tried them all, changing the plugins path, removing the netscape from it. No luck at all, besides everyone in those threads state that the problem was only while using opera, they were able to play flash sites in other browsers, which is not my case, unfortunatelly :(

Please read this thread https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-506698-highlight-opera.html -- especially when netscape is listed in the path to flash. Just a guess.

for me, too!

Could some dev possibly add a hint to the ebuild? one could even make the ebuild check /etc/X11/xorg.conf for enabled composite extension...

sth like
Code:
grep "^[^#]*omposite.*nable.*" /etc/X11/xorg.conf

could easily determine whether we have a composite setup or not.

but the general question for me is: why doesn't it work at all with composite enabled? well... i just had a look: it's a flash problem and v9.xx of the plugin should fix it.

i think a warning would be nice, nevertheless.
