i am useing kernel 2.6.16 whit alsa. my sound card is a intel8x0 i have installd it and gentoo finds the sound card. but when i try to run anywhit whit sound i get this error msg.

Run Look for the part where shound is started. Are there any errors ?
If so, or you are not sure, please post that section of smesg.

There seem to be a lot of forums reporting problems with the snd_intel8x0 module. I had a problem where no sound would come from the card, the solution was to down grade the alsa-utils. Perhaps you could try that?
