No Sound - second sound card - ALSA.

Intro
Two sound cards, both built as modules.
card0: emu10k1, Audigy 2 ZS Platinum PCI.
card1: intel8x0, Intel ICH5 onbard.

Problem
No sound from the second card (card 1). it works if I change /etc/asound.conf back to card 0 (the audigy).
XMMS plays, but no sound comes out.

Testing with aplay (a wave from the game Oblivion)

Testing with aplay (a wave from Windows)

please, try the plug plugin (-Dplug:default)

there may not be a problem

in mine, there is no MM, the second column where yours does.
The second is a master 3d control.

I'm not sure but it may be case of one, not both.

Yeah I see that now ...

I still can't get aplay to play any sound to that card.

the heartdead.wav is a sound from the game Oblivion.

seeing your master is a 3d option, it looks like the error message is saying your attempt to make sound via aplay id 'underdone'.
i.e. aplay takes a number of other arguements.
The msg is prompting you in this case for a channel count.

Keep at it.
Sound seems me to take quite a bit of setting up, esp. with 2 sound devices.

I've changed my default sound card to card 1 via /etc/asound.conf


xmms plays, but no sound comes out. it works if I change the default back to card 0.

Try downgrading alsa-utils to alsa-utils-1.0.10, it worked for me.
