Hi folx,

since the last kernel update (2.6.17) ALSA doesn't work correctly anymore. The problem is: ALSA loads without error, also alsaconf and alsamixer work fine, and the files under /proc/asound don't show anything strange.

Code:
dmesg:
intel8x0_measure_ac97_clock: measured 59489 usecs
intel8x0: clocking to 48000

Code:
# cat /proc/asound/version
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.11.
Compiled on Jul  3 2006 for kernel 2.6.17-gentoo.

# cat /proc/asound/cards

# cat /proc/asound/card0/id

 cat /proc/asound/card0/intel8x0

But when I try to use VLC I get the following errors:
Code:

Also XMMS doesn't work saying that a problem with the sound plugin appeared.

I reemerged alsa-driver and alsa-utils already -> not better!

Any idea?? :(

Have you installed the corresponding alsa-lib?
It should match either the version of alsa-driver.

I'm having a very similar problem where I can get no sound out of my sound card.

I've got the drivers compiled as modules. (I've tried it compiled into the kernel and as modules). I think the relevant info is below:

Code:
$ uname -r
2.6.16-suspend2-r9

Code:
$ dmesg |grep -i intel8
intel8x0_measure_ac97_clock: measured 59555 usecs
intel8x0: clocking to 48000

Try downgrading alsa-utils to alsa-utils-1.0.10, it worked for me.

I'm having the same problem. After trying the alsa-utils-1.0.10 remerge it still wasn't fixed.

I just got it working over here. The fix was turning OFF the 'Headphone Jack Sense' item in alsamixer, and turning on Master, PCM, etc.

Code:
