Hi folx,
since the last kernel update (2.6.17) ALSA doesn't work correctly anymore. The problem is: ALSA loads without error, also alsaconf and alsamixer work fine, and the files under /proc/asound don't show anything strange.
| Code: | dmesg:

| Code: | # cat /proc/asound/version

But when I try to use VLC I get the following errors:

Also XMMS doesn't work saying that a problem with the sound plugin appeared.
I reemerged alsa-driver and alsa-utils already -> not better!
Any idea??  |

Have you installed the corresponding alsa-lib?
It should match either the version of alsa-driver. _________________ Got a question? - http://justfuckinggoogleit.com/ |

I'm having a very similar problem where I can get no sound out of my sound card.
I've got the drivers compiled as modules. (I've tried it compiled into the kernel and as modules). I think the relevant info is below:

| I'm having the same problem. After trying the alsa-utils-1.0.10 remerge it still wasn't fixed. |

I just got it working over here. The fix was turning OFF the 'Headphone Jack Sense' item in alsamixer, and turning on Master, PCM, etc.
