OK so here's the situation:
After much reading and hours of trying I finally got my printer (HP Deskjet 712C) to print from Windows XP through my Gentoo Linux box. Once I got to the point where the cups and samba configurations were good, I wanted them to startup on boot so I did an rc-update for both samba and cups.
The problem is that after the machine starts up, I can't use the printer from Windows until I stop samba and start it again. I made sure that in the samba runlevel config thingy it was loading cupsd before samba. It was set to "use cupsd," and changing it to "need cupsd" apparently had no effect. When I restart samba printing from XP works perfectly.
It's not the worst problem in the world since the printer works, but it is a little annoying!
Any ideas?
p.s. I know it's supposedly possibly to print without samba using the IPP stuff, but I haven't been able to get that to work correctly yet, and using it through samba is working quite well (except for my issue of course).
Thanks |

Where do I do this? In /etc/init.d/samba or cupsd? And if so, where in the file...? |

did you ever get this working good? I have a similar problem... Deskjet 712c on my nix box, trying to print form Win2K. I haven't successfully got it to print ever! If you could, would you paste your smb.conf file if it works? Thanks. |
