|
|
Hi,
I have searched around the forums for info about the Sun Netra D130
storage. I see a few are running them with other Sun equipment. I
wonder if this works with any UW-SCSI-controller in say a regular
Gentoo-x86 or Gentoo-PPC machine or if there is something special
so it needs a Sun host. Also, does it work well with Gentoo 2.6.15?
Will it show up as a regular device in dmesg after powering it up or
does it need any special setup?
I'm thinking of purchasing one of these and put it together with my
Gentoo-PPC fileserver if it works with a normal SCSI-card, or maybe
together with a Sun Ultra1, I may get hold of.. |

I'm using Sun D130's with both Sun equipment and non-Sun equipment. The interface is a standard ultraSCSI and doesn't require special drivers as such other than the ones you need for the SCSI adapter that you are using in your system.
The non-Sun box I have uses a HP Megaraid 3Si adapter and it runs just fine!
The disks will show up as standard SCSI disks (SDx) or just 1 disk when you use a hardware raid controller as I do. Nothing non-standard about it.
As a note: you don't need to put a terminator on the scsi-out interface of the D130 as it auto-terminates the bus if does't detect any devices behind it!
Good luck! _________________ Smaug: Sun Netra T1 105, UltraSPARC-IIi 440MHz, 512MB, 2*36GB 10kRPM; 2 Sun Netra D130: 6*36GB 10kRPM, swraid 0
