after I do an
I get this message.

* An update to portage is available. It is _highly_ recommended
* that you update portage now, before any other packages are updated.
* Please do so and then update ALL of your configuration files.

How do I do this? I can't seem to work it out from the documantation.

Portage is basically the .. well its better to read this short introduction then to explain it.. very easy to understand also ..

and to upgrade portage its just emerge -u portage .. but i suggest you read what you are upgrading and why first
