I am trying to update GLIBC to the latest version (2.4-r3) from 2.3.6-r3. I receive this error while trying to compile.

Code:

running configure fragment for sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/powerpc
checking whether powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu-gcc -mtune=powerpc -pipe -freorder-blocks -O2 -mlong-double-128 uses IBM extended format... no
checking whether powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu-gcc -mtune=powerpc -pipe -freorder-blocks -O2 supports -mabi=ibmlongdouble... no
configure: error: this configuration requires -mlong-double-128 IBM extended format support

!!! ERROR: sys-libs/glibc-2.4-r3 failed.
Call stack:
  ebuild.sh, line 1539:   Called dyn_compile
  ebuild.sh, line 939:   Called src_compile
  glibc-2.4-r3.ebuild, line 1169:   Called toolchain-glibc_src_compile
  glibc-2.4-r3.ebuild, line 251:   Called glibc_do_configure 'nptl'
  glibc-2.4-r3.ebuild, line 941:   Called die

!!! failed to configure glibc
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, and the call stack if relevant.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Found the solution, sorry for the dupe thread.

Solution is to compile glibc with gcc 4.1.
