Just put -qt3 -qt4 -qt5 -qt6 in your USE parameter in the make.conf that will keep the vermin off your system for a little while longer. Changing the QT USE parameter was obviously a desperate attempt to infect gtk machines. After people got used to using TrollTech applications they wouldn't remove them. I wonder what the maintainers got for this ploy?

When some package pulls in app-text/poppler-bindings you might get x11-libs/qt-4.x pulled in. Setting -qt in /etc/make.conf will not suffice here. You'll need the -qt4 use flag to avoid building qt4 along with app-text/poppler-bindings.
