|
|
Hey, im trying to install the new beta kernel 2.5.69 but my network wont work. I've tried comiling the kernel with the rtl8139 both as built into the kernel and as a module, have the same problem with both. When i try to ping my router or any other computers it gets no response, same with websites. However my 2.4.20 kernel works fine with rtl8139 compiled as a module.
By the way i am not using dhcp, it has a static ip.
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried to modprobe to see what kind of an error you get?

Then you have the module working.
Have you checked and double checked that the IP, Broadcast and Gateway are ok?
If they are try to ping an IP. If you get an response then check your DNS server ip's in
/etc/resolv.conf _________________ A bus station is where a bus stops, a train station is where a train stops. On

I'm using it right now without any problems - check your route (route -n). Add if necessary. Does ifconfig -a say both "up" and "running"? |

Ok just had a look and the only difference i can see between 2.4.20 (works) and 2.5.96 (unable to resolve host) is that ifconfig's last line of eth0 in 2.4.20 is "Interrupt:9" however in 2.5.69 it's "Interrupt:9 Base address:0x8000"
Does this help me at all?
Also it does say "UP BORADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1"
Thanks for the help so far!

Do you have a default route?
What do you have in your /etc/resolv.conf? |
