Hi, I installed my system (2006.0 PPC32) using packages from the CD. I tried upgrading KDE from 3.4 (installed from package) to 3.5 via emerge. Things were going well when it crashed with the error:

Code:
Error loading: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory  - libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

So I've been trying to fix this. I've run ldconfig, fix_libtool_files.sh, env-update, source /etc/profile, emerge -eav system, etc,. with no luck. Somewhere down the line the error crops up again.

The latest issue is that while tyring to recompile everything with GCC 3.4.6 (GCC 3.4.4 was installed via package, the latter via emerge during KDE upgrade) via emerge -eav system, it crashes with the "error" while trying to run javac. Re-emerging IBM-jdk-bin doesn't help.

I don't know what to do short of formatting my hard drive and re-installing everthing.

Help!
Doug M

Try
Code:
revdep-rebuild --library=libstdc++.so.5

Moved from Portage & Programming to Duplicate Threads in favour of this FAQ: Error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5.
