As soon as I get to work, they release the GoogleEarth linux beta into portage - so I have to wait until I get home to try it
Anyone have any impressions so far? |

Just quickly since I'm off to work, spent 5 minutes with it on my laptop and it's looking great so far. |

...but the first topic only had a small amount about whether people could actually run it - the second was about running the windows version under Wine. |

GE beta tells me that my OpenGL mode is software.
UT2004-demo runs perfectly with hardware acceleration.
I'm on amd64.

Yes just a day after it came out, neither link offered heaps of information, but both addressed it. I know the second was started about wine, which is why I (tried to?) link the second page, where the discussion changed to the linux version: and now there is quite a bit about font size issues, video drivers, seg faults, and compiling errors.
As you may have noticed on one of those, the .bin installation works fine for me, but it's using OpenGL emulation for some reason. Ati-drivers-8.25.18 on amd64.
Good luck when you try it if you haven't yet. |

GE Beta4 worked good for me. Had one issue with X - GE konked out with a message about an error file. Reading the file - twas looking for GLX to be enabled. A quick trip to the xorg.conf file, enabled GLX, rebooted X and I'm searching the planet. ...slice |

Also - I just noticed that there is a portage package for the new Linux version of Google Picasa! It's great to see a company support Linux like this. |
