resync and try again - it seems that changes have been done to a / some eclass(es) today which result in this error, probably for any package inheriting / using the respictive eclass.

Sorry - I meant to say that this error also happens ( at least for me ) when trying to emerge gconf-editor 2.14.0. So I think its the same bug we experience which is maybe a result of a buggy eclass.

upgraded gnome2.eclass seems to have a problem.
When I replaced it with older one, the problem was fixed.

OK, here we go :

Copy this file

http://sources.gentoo.org/viewcvs.py/*checkout*/gentoo-x86/eclass/gnome2.eclass?rev=1.65

to /usr/portage/eclass/gnome2.eclass

Thanks Devport, that fixed my error also. You might want to post this temp fix on the bugzilla page - I don't think anyone has mentioned the problem yet.

I had that same error with gnome-terminal as well, but the eclass you posted fixed it.

hi at all,

as first i'm sorry for my english-spaghetti...
Usually i post on italian channel so, probably nobody has never read my nick....
i had your same problem, but on every software in portage, so i cannot install nothing no more.

But i will try to explain starting from the begin...
Today i tried to install into another partition(hda5) a new gentoo system based on vserver.
I followed theese guides:

Following the first of them i wrote my first hdparm command:
Code:
hdparm -d 1 -A 1 -m 16 -u 1 -a 64 /dev/hda

Then installing any package i get an error like this:
Code:
make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/portage/autoconf-2.59-r7/work/autoconf-2.59/doc'
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/portage/autoconf-2.59-r7/work/autoconf-2.59/doc'
>>> Completed installing autoconf-2.59-r7 into /var/tmp/portage/portage/autoconf-2.59-r7/image/

!!! install_qa_check failed; exiting.

so i thought at mine error installing the system(a step do not performed, or something like that), so i goes back to my stable partition(hda6), erased the newer partition (hda5)...but at that point i ask to my self if the problem could be an hdparm problem...so i tried to install a package into stable partition...and i get the same error!
So i thought to an hdparm problem, i turned it off completely, but neither this help me.
Then i ask into: #gentoo #gentoo-it #gentoo-uk #kde
channel on irc...but nobody was able to give me the right advice to solve this problem.
Someone suggested me this post...but the difference between your problem and mine is that i get the same error compiling any package!
The strange thing is that i can compile all software right(as error message says), but i cannot install it!
At this point i will give you some infos about my system ;)
Code:
emerge --info

portage was installed with this flags:
Code:
[ebuild   R   ] sys-apps/portage-2.1  USE="-build -doc" LINGUAS="-pl" 0 kB

(note LINGUAS option...why pl???? i wrote this line into make.conf: LINGUAS="it en". Could this be related? I tried to add on the fly some other languages but that params, did not change...strange, i think.)

today i ran an "emerge sync" command as first, but reading warning came from server i cancelled (ctrl+c) the syncing, and performed it again with right command:
Code:
emerge --sync

then i got this error, so i tried to reinstall portage, but i can't because my system cannot install(copy to final destination, i think) nothing. So i tried old command again:
Code:
emerge sync

but nothing worked for me...
someone could help me?
thanks at all in advance
fraido

P.S. oh i tried to copy the gnome2.eclass as previously suggested too...neither this works.. :( ...i'm really not lucky!

Your error isn't related to the bug in this thread. Have you tried asking for help on the Italian forum?

hi at all ...cut...

thanks to Ferdinando Formica now i know that problem was due from a package
that i installed (out of portage to compile with tmpfs instead on disk). As
suggested from Ferdinando i changed previous package developed from
Fonderiadigitale: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-340329.html
with the version that Ferdinando developed:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-469501.html
Now i does not get the problem. Thanks Ferdinando and thanks at all other that
helped me.
