I hate it that there are so many special repositories for experimental software or untested ebuilds on bugs.gentoo.org.. I'd prefer to have those all available in portage easily, maybe in one official testing repository. What do you other gentooers ponder?
<edit>poll options:
-build an official testing overlay for gentoo % app developers to access
-allow more new untested ebuilds into portage but hardmask them
-keep everything like it is or
-get me ALOT of ice cream</edit _________________ "You cannot teach people anything. You can only help them discover it within themselves." --Galileo

Putting these ebuilds directly into portage is not a good idea IMO, even if they were masked. One of the biggest problems is that every ebuild would have to be checked over that it doesn't do anything stupid, plus other QA checks which as a user I consider are essential for anything that goes into portage.
However, you may be interested in the Sunrise Overlay which does a lot of what you seem to want. You may also want to check out the layman utility if you haven't already done so, which is designed to help manage multiple overlays. |
