hi, i have an ATI radeon x700 video card on an amd64 system and direct rendring works like a charm when i use normal X, but when i use XGL (ive been following the wiki at gentoowiki.com) it just doesnt work :(

this is fglrxinfo output in normal X:
Code:

# fglrxinfo -display :1
display: :1.0  screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: RADEON X700 PRO Generic
OpenGL version string: 2.0.5814 (8.25.18)

and this is glxinfo output in normal X

this is fglrxinfo output in XGL:
Code:

# fglrxinfo -display :1
Xlib:  extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":1.0".
display: :1.0  screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: RADEON X700 PRO Generic
OpenGL version string: 1.2 (2.0.5814 (8.25.18))

and this is glxinfo output in XGL

im using (as the wiki said) "/usr/bin/Xgl :1 -ac -accel xv:pbuffer -accel glx:pbuffer" in my gdm.conf

can anyone help me with this? am i missing something?

PS: compiz works perfectly! (damn ive been playing with it for hours and hours 8O truely amazing)

Short version: That's normal. Direct rendering under Xgl is not possible.
Long version: http://principe.homelinux.net/

(NB: I'm not the author of the above page but it explains the issues at hand nicely.)
