|

In my university we have access to internet through a squid web caching proxy which requires authentication . Now i want to setup transparent proxy(squid) on my gentoo box so that i can force programs like bittorrent, superkaramba to know about the squid proxy , some1 told me it shd work fine . The problem is that i have no clue at all how to setup the transparent proxy , also i wana know whats tunneling . I actually got a link of tldp.org on trasparent proxy but it doesnt say anything abt cases as mine where we have a univ proxy . So basically if some1 can help out with some nice pointers or anything it wud be great. |

I have managed to setup squid on my own laptop so that i dont have to authenticate to the university proxy again and again . But now i want to make my squid transparent(actually i dont exactly know how it will help) , plz some1 explain how its going to help me , what i can get is that by making squid transparent , i will force applications to use squid proxy which is exactly what i wish for . At the moment with my squid setup with my cache peer as the university proxy , i have to specify proxy settings as http://localhost:3128 , but if i dont even want to do that , what shd i do?? |

two things you need to set up for this to work: squid and iptables DNAT rules. For squid, it's all there if you read through the comments in squid.conf. For iptables, just read about DNAT. |
