This never stops, and it really really lags my system beyond belief (I cant even watch a DVD)

I was wondering if there is a kernel module that i need to disable for this partcular function to stop being called .

Any help is appreiated

Something to check:

What all do you have enabled under ACPI support in the kernel? This might be acpid polling the power button/something else for shutdown or some other action. If that's the case, you can edit the acpi script to remove that functionality or add support for the item in the kernel. That's the only thing that pops into my head, may or may not help. :?
