There is a mathematica version for Red Hat and Suse, but would that same version also work on a Gentoo System? I don't know what it would possible need except a kernel and extensions to the C language I think, and since i don't own it or have ever used the linux version I don't. Thanks for any help |

I have Mathematica 5.0 and it works OK on Gentoo. It has issues with Xgl, but those are fixable.
BTW, there is Linux demo version, which is good for trying it out. |

thanks, but are there any other issues? I mean all the math programming and scripting works right? I guess when graphing it might have some problems with xgl and such but it isn't unusable Right? |

The Xgl issue is really minor, just disable transparency for mathematica process and it works without issues. Everything else (at least everything I tried) works fine. |

I have Mathematica working perfectly on my Gentoo box. I haven't have any problems with it. I use it from the console and the graphics worked out of the box. |
