Hi this appears to be a different problem to another thread with the same title.

Emerge fails with "Configure error: Cannot find required GStreamer-0.10 plugin 'playbin' It should be part of gst-plugins-base. Please install it."

Well I installed gst-plugins-base by emerging totem stills fails with the same error message

TIA

athena ~ # emerge --info

Code:
# emerge gst-plugins

I tried that. gst-plugins emerged fine (no errors) but totem still fails.

checking for backend libraries... checking for GST... yes
GStreamer-0.10
checking GStreamer 0.10 playbin plugin... ./configure: line 20085: 8603 Bus error $gst010_inspect $base_element >/dev/null 2>/dev/null
no
configure: error:

It should be part of gst-plugins-base. Please install it.

I am having the same problem. Trying to install gnome-2.14 on a SunBlade 100 (SPARC hardware) and installing totem-1.4.0 fails:

Code:
<snip>
checking for sparc-unknown-linux-gnu-pkg-config... no
checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config
checking pkg-config is at least version 0.9.0... yes
checking for backend libraries... checking for GST... yes

no
configure: error:
Cannot find required GStreamer-0.10 plugin 'playbin'.
It should be part of gst-plugins-base. Please install it.

I found this bug report: media-video/totem-1.4.0 cannot find gstreamer plugin. Listed this was a liboil problem with peoples CFLAGS settings. So, I tried re-emerging liboil with no optimizations, then re-emerging gst-plugins-base and then totem, but no luck.

Running "gst-inspect-0.10 playbin" reveals:
Code:
OIL: ERROR liboilprofile.c 318: _oil_profile_init(): Using gettimeofday() as a timestamp function.  Please add a timestamp function for your platform.
Bus error

I can't tell if this problem is related to this post or is a arch issue. Any ideas?

Same issue here on an Sun Ultra 10. I re-emerged gst-plugins (twice) and liboil once and still have the same error.

I got my problem with totem resolved here. Looks like the problem stems from using liboil-0.3.8 on SPARC.

I was emerging world when I got the totem error. I tried re-emerging liboil and the gst-plugins. That didn't help. So, in frustration, I resumed emerging world with the --skip-first option. So it went on its merry way. apparently something else built totem successfully later on in the emerge process. Odd...

I have the same problem, but re-emerging a bunch of stuff doesn't help. I tried liboil, gst-plugins-base, and gstreamer. Any ideas? Where is playbin? Thanks in advance.

I also have the same problem.
I have seen a bug report on this:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=143810

It still doesn't work for me.

I finally decided that it was more annoying to have totem not installing than to be forced to install packages that are not stable. I emerged the packages gstreamer and gst-plugins-base from 0.10.8 to 0.10.11, and liboil 3.6-r1 to 3.10-r1 (as suggested in the bug report) with the "x86" keyword, and now totem installs. However, now when I try to start totem I get the message:
totem: error while loading shared libraries: libdbus-1.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I guess I will just do a "revdep-rebuild" and recompile a bunch of packages.

/Bacs

"emerge liboil" solved it for me as well. totem now compiled. On x86 (stable)...
