Hi,

I still had some old boxes around with pre 1.0 (rc6) Gentoo on them. I started the upgrade as described in http://lists.gentoo.org/pipermail/gentoo-user/2002-May/022860.html

This went fine on most except on 2 systems where I get the following:

Code:

root # emerge --update --pretend system
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/mta
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/cron
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/linux-sources
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/glibc
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/imapd
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/kernel
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/python
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/mta
etc...

The some occurs on emerge rsyncs, ... . I just CTRL-C it to be sure I didn't break anything.

Any ideas what this could be?

Thanks,

Frederik

Try:

Code:

emerge rsync --clean
emerge -p --update system

I tried that in your advise with no luck :(

This is what I got:
Code:

# emerge -p --update system
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/mta
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/cron
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/linux-sources
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/glibc
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/imapd
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/kernel
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/python
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/mta
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/cron
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/linux-sources
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/glibc
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/imapd
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/kernel
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/virtual/python
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/sys-apps/texinfo
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/sys-apps/console-tools
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/sys-apps/texinfo
!!! Invalid db entry: /var/db/pkg/sys-apps/console-tools

These are the packages that I would merge, in order.

Calculating system dependencies ...done!

Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Frederik.

The Portage DB should upgrade automatically when Portage is installed.

"emerge -u portage" should fix matters.

/me figured out to run:

Code:

/usr/lib/portage/bin/db-update.py

I tried both upgrade methods (emerge -u portage and /usr/lib/portage/bin/db-update.py) without success...

problem is that this is on a production server. I dare not to just delete this files. Everything else seems to work

Please, any other ideas or info?

Thanks,

Frederik.
