Hey, I'm trying to install 2006.0 onto a new Toshiba Satellite A105 laptop (1.7 mHz Celeron M processor, 512 Mb RAM). I'm pretty much done with the stage3 install, and I'm just trying to tweak some things before I log in for the first time (I'm still working off the LiveCD at this point). I've had several emerge errors that are all pretty similar. I've tried to emerge media-libs/gd, media-libs/lcms, and app-text/poppler, just to name a few, and here's the tail end of portage's output when I tried to install poppler...

Code:

grep: /usr/lib/gcc/i386-pc-linux-gnu/3.4.4/libstdc++.la: No such file or directory
/bin/sed: can't read /usr/lib/gcc/i386-pc-linux-gnu/3.4.4/libstdc++.la: No such file or directory
libtool: link: `/usr/lib/gcc/i386-pc-linux-gnu/3.4.4/libstdc++.la' is not a valid libtool archive
make[3]: *** [libpoppler.la] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/poppler-0.5.0-r5/work/poppler-0.5.0/poppler'
make[2]: *** [all] Error 2
make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/poppler-0.5.0-r5/work/poppler-0.5.0/poppler'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/poppler-0.5.0-r5/work/poppler-0.5.0'
make: *** [all] Error 2

!!! ERROR: app-text/poppler-0.5.0-r5 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 55, Exitcode 2
!!! compilation failed
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.

It's complaining about files that it thinks will be in /usr/lib/gcc/i386-pc-linux-gnu/, but that directory in fact doesn't exist (nor should it, I suspect, as this is a i686 system). But why is portage trying to look there? I can post my make.conf if that's helpful.

you could see if you have that library

emerge -va libstdc++

if that doesn't work then try:

fix_libtool_files.sh 3.4.4 (maybe just need 3.4 I don't exactly know)

also it should be, to the best of my knowledge, i686-pc-linux-gnu if you have

CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"

in your make.conf

My CHOST is set correctly. I tried emerging libstdc++ and running fix_libtool_files.sh; I get the same error as I did before for each of them. :( Any other ideas?

I'm assuming you are chrooted when you are doing this?

I would reboot your system then try emerging.

also might be helpful to post

emerge --info

Please see this FAQ, and follow up to one of the links at the bottom if you are still having problems: Emerge fails after upgrading gcc. libstdc++.la missing
