|
|
Hi, all.
I've been Googling around for a graphical install (LiveCD?) image for sparc64 (specifically a Ultra 10). Looking at Andrew Gaffney's page, it would suggest that one may be developed in the future, but I just wanted to check, in-case I missed something.
I am cool with the old text install, but whenever I boot the system, I have screwed /etc/fstab up, or something, so I just want to try a different method.
If anybody knows of an ISO that I can download, that would be great.
Cheers,
Chris. |

Sorry, but the livecd is only for x86 (for the masses ) available, atm! But I don't happen to know if there is one planned for future releases. |

That's disappointing, but understandable. The time of the developers, is limited. At least I got Aurora (Fedora) to work, but that was Next, Next, Finish, almost.
Cheers,
Chris. |

Are you positive that your fstab prob is that hard to solve? With the help of the fora and irc, getting a working fstab, shouldn't be that hard.
But whatever makes yo happy! |

Maybe I should give it another go. Can you recommend an image to start with? Is the Universal best?
Cheers,
Chris. |

Downloading. Will do handbook at work, tomorrow
Many thanks,
Chris.
Now to sort a partitioning table. I only have about 3.5Gb, until I buy a new HDD. |

Just to make sure you see it! please take alook at my post right above. (But the minimal is fine too, since you can download all stages you'd like when installing.) |

3.5GB will be the absolute limit, which means deleting all the sources right after compling them. It might even be unusable, depending on what you are planning to use it for.
No chance of getting a cheap used one? |

Loki99,
Understood. Thanks for the clarification. I have downloaded the minimal and can confirm that I have 256 Megs of RAM, and 4223 of HDD.
With regard to my partitioning, I understand that emerge can take up a lot of space. My only requirement is that I have a seperate /home partition, and I shall be using the box for desktop use. I am happy to use WindowMaker, or some other light WM.
Can anybody suggest the best partitioning layout, given the needs of emerge?
Many thanks,
Chris. |

According to the handbook, I guess you could try:
*) 512 MB for /
*) 256 MB for swap
*) 2 GB for /usr
*) 1 GB for /var
*) rest for /home |
