Ok, so I finally got through the manual install and I got this message when I tried to boot.
ext2fs_check_if_mount: No such file or directiory while dterminging whether /dev/root is mounted
FSCK.ext3: No such file or directory while trying to open /dev/ROOT
/dev/ROOT:
The Superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 file system. If the device is valid and it really
contains an ext2 filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock is corrupt, and you might try
running e2fsck with an alternate superblock:
e2fsck -b 8193 <device>
*File system could not be fixed
give root password for maintenance
(or type control-d to continue): |

You need to correct /etc/fstab. It shouldn't be /dev/ROOT.

Boot live cd and mount your root partition then Code: | nano /mnt/gentoo/etc/fstab | You will have to know your partitioning scheme to correct the file(use fdisk or cfdisk). The manual details all of this so just take a look at: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/index.xml?catid=install and pick a manual from there you may just want to take a look at the x86 quick install it has a good rundown.
