|
|
I am trying to install Gentoo on a powerblade via serial console (only option). However, when I select the serial console kernel in the yaboot menu, the boot fails in the initial stages and the server resets itself.
Have i missed some nifty kernel options that I should include?

The reason why the serial console kernel isn't booting would probably be that the blade talk on ttyS1 and not ttyS0. However, changing these parameters results in boot failure.
When I boot without console parameters on the standard pSeries kernel, the BladeServer boots, but I lack any kind of ide or scsi devices, which is a small problem
Please can anybody help me on this?
I hate to be forced to move to the SuSe Enterprise server (approx. $2000).

What parameters are you changing? console=ttyS1,9600? What other parameters are on your line? _________________ IBM RS/6000 43p-140 604r@233MHz Gentoo PPC32

Yes, the only parameter I add is the console=ttyS1,19200. I took this from the IBM docs about how to config lilo when booting the SuSe distro. However, I am clearly missing something.
