The apps you use on your linux desktop

I used gentoo as server OS and never used as a dekstop replacement but now things are changing as I bought a laptop and decided to migrate from winxp to linux completely. I have a really lame question... Which programs do you usually use? For example, "E-mail client - Evolution, Browser - Firefox" and so on... I would really appreciate your replies because I want to get some basic software up for common work and tasks...

It would be better to structurize answer as a list.

Currently I decided to use:
KDE
Evolution
Openoffice
XMMS2

there are zillions of nice little dockapps for just about everything. Theres a site dockapps.org or something to that effect that has a lot, most of which are in portage. I prefer having dock apps running than actual programs as the work really well with fluxbox's slit. They persist between workspaces, acting almost like a heads up display for you computers vitals.

yeahconsole - great quake-style console app (not in portage yet)
devilspie - "A window-matching utility"
pornview - great image viewing program, not only for pr0n :lol:

wireless networking - NetworkManager (with gentopia overlay)

browser - firefox 1.5 (you should check out the hugh amount of wonderful extensions, e.g.: flashgot, tab catalog, adblock plus, googlepreview, chatzilla, fireftp, mediaplayerconnectivity, videodownloader)
media player - kplayer
music player - amarok
reference manager - jabref
cd/dvd burning - k3b

superkaramba extensions: liquid weather, ubermon, skopete (sadly, a.t.m. superkaramba does not really work with Xgl, which I use quite often ("often" and not "always", because I still experience some video playback problems)

This must be a dupe of some sort, and should be in OTW anyway.

As for my frequently used apps:
KDE (lot of those bells and whistles, including: konqueror, k3b, kpdf, kontact, amarok, konsole, kopete, konversation, koffice, kwrite, kate, quanta+, super-karamba, and ofcourse lots more).
Firefox (still have a need for it, but konqueror is winning terrain).
Boinc (more info)
Portage and related tools :lol:

Wine (it is getting nicer these days, and I still love Red Alert 2 too much to leave it behind

)
