hi, i'm using the newest ebuild of winex. the installation crashes when i'm trying to install an application, which is using the "windows install shield"
translated error message (from german:) : the install shield engine (kernel32.dll) couldn't be initialized (0x80070057)

In order to have install shield working in winex you must launch winex (or wine) with -winver win95 and install dcom95.exe this way. After this, everything should be just fine.

Good luck!

I'm tryin to get the ebuild of winex workin too but I keep getting an error message when launching the installshield that ikernel.exe could not be launched. I've tried installing dcom95 with -winver win95 and still get the error. Also this comes up in the console when the ikernel.exe error comes up "err:file:DeleteFileA Empty path passed." I've got the same problem with the latest CVS winex, but strangely not with the commercial version of winex. I saw the other post about ikernel.exe and tried lookin through codeweavers docs, but couldn't find anything about this.

thanks for the dcom hint... i'll try it at home ;)

anyone knows what this means?

ikernel.exe could not be copied to "c:\program files\common files\installshield\engine\6\intel32" make sure that you have the appropriate privileges to copy files to this folder.

the path exists in the system.reg

does the user your installing from have access to write to your wine program files directory? (set in ~/.wine/config).

not talking about his home directory... talking about the directory you specified as windows dir.

for example:

[Drive C]
"Path" = "/mnt/Wine"
"Type" = "hd"
"Label" = "MS-DOS"
"Filesystem" = "win95"

[wine]
"Windows" = "c:\\windows"

here the user needs full access to /mnt/Wine, and it always puts the Program Files directory on C:\Program Files.
