I have a:
Ultrasparc IIe - 500Mhz , 2gig Ram
(3) 18gig scsi
(1) cdrom scsi

I have followed the instructions throughout the install process and havnt had many problems. However, when i get to the reboot process after everything is installed and compiled, etc... It says it cannot find the boot image "Cannot find /vmlinux (Unknown ext2 error)" So i figure it is something in my fstab or silo.conf. Below i listed everything i thought would be helpful; for helping me.

Sda1 is /
Sda2 is /usr
Sda4 is /var
Sda5 is /tmp
Sdb1 is /home
Sdb2 is my swap
Sdc1 is /share

FSTAB

proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
none /proc/openprom openpromfs defaults 0 0
shm /dev/shm tmpfs nodev,nosuid,noexec 0 0

SILO.CONF
# Example of how can be silo.conf set up
partition = 1
root = /dev/sda1
timeout = 10
#password = __put_your_password_in_cleartext_here__
#restricted
image = /boot/linux-2.4.32-sparc-r2
label = linux

I wasnt sure in the fstab about the /dev/BOOT so i # it out because earlier in the install process it says that the /boot will only complicate the boot process. I've tried changing my boot image to vmlinux, vmlinuz and linux-2.4.32-sparc-r2 and none work, so i figure it must be something that i've been overlooking. Now i'm hopeful a different set of eyes can spot it or point out my noobiness.

Keep in mind that the only real linux i've played with before is SUSE 10 using KDE, but i want to use this old sparc box for a project at work, hence the installation of gentoo.

Thanks for taking the time to look,

k

"/gentoo"? Should it be "/"?

Where is your silo.conf located?
It sounds a bit like silo is not using the version of silo.conf that you think it is.
If you ran /sbin/silo it defaults to using /etc/silo.conf
If the silo.conf you want to use is /boot/silo.conf then you must run
/sbin/silo -C /boot/silo.conf

Same error, i checked the /etc/silo and the /boot/silo and they are identical to what i posted.
Does my fstab look correct as far as # out the /dev/BOOT ?

Thanks for the help thus far
