How to re-emerge a entire system or large parts of it ?

do you have any suggestions how to do the following task with little effort:

I'd like to re-install / re-emerge the entire system for a couple of gentoo-boxes with updated complier optimizations (e.g was : -march=i386 -> should be -mcpu=athlon-xp)

Any hints how to make this with little effort ??
