You can find the problem in line 1552 of /var/tmp/portage/mplayer-1.0.20060408/work/mplayer-1.0.20060408/help_mp.h
Seems, that there is a typo in this line. There is a character "|" between the variable name MSGTR_MPCODECS_WarnNextFilterDoesntSupportSlices and the string. As far as I can see, this character is absolutely "useless" (in short: an error) and you should delete it.
After this change, compiling mplayer manually and setting the FEATURE "keepwork" should fix this bug. At least, it worked for me
Maybe this problem only occurs, if you're using german language system wide? _________________ I think I've lost my english-skills... |

For those which have error like this
| Quote: | iconv -f `cat help/help_mp-fr.h.charset` -t UTF-8 "help/help_mp-fr.h" >> help_mp.h
cat: help/help_mp-fr.h.charset: No such file or directory
|
it is enough to copy the missing charset file from another language and then compiling again.
Choose a charset file near to your language.
For exemple there is what i have do:
Unpack mplayer (choose the corect ebuild)
| Code: | | ebuild /usr/portage/media-video/mplayer/mplayer-1.0.20060408.ebuild unpack |
Go to help directory
| Code: | | cd /var/tmp/portage/mplayer-1.0.20060408/work/mplayer-1.0.20060408/help/ |
Copy charset file
| Code: | | cp help_mp-de.h.charset help_mp-fr.h.charset |
Return to home
Compiling
| Code: | | ebuild /usr/portage/media-video/mplayer/mplayer-1.0.20060408.ebuild compile install qmerge |

iconv: conversion from `-t' is not supported
