Linux really lacks a good karaoke player. Kmid has never worked for me - it hangs all the time and pyKaraoke does not meet my needs.
Here is how I finally got vanBasco's Karaoke Player working under Gentoo.
I am assuming you already have sound working with alsa. Make sure that in your kernel config you have included "Sequencer support". For ALSA setup see:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml
Install wine:
Install timidity:
Code: | emerge -va timidity++ timidity-eawpatches |
Start timidity
Code: | /etc/init.d/timidity start |
Run wine's regedit:
Create or modify the following keys:
Create HKCU\Software\Wine\ALSA, and add two string values:
MidiPort=128:0
PlaybackDevice=default
Create HKCU\Software\Wine\Drivers, and add a string value:
audio=alsa
Since we are using Timidity, the midi port is 128:0. (For serial MIDI use 72:0)
Check your available ports user:
Get vanBasco's Karaoke Player from http://www.vanbasco.com/
wine vkaraoke
wine "C:\Program Files\vanBasco's Karaoke Player\vmidi"
Select a Timidiy sound output device.

Work very very very fine for me : thank a lot, you save my life (long story!)
Just one question :
unfortunately, vanBasco doesn't support cd+g file, so, do you know a good cd+g player for linux (or wine) ?
Thank you _________________ http://www.angenoir.com |

There is an ebuild available in the sunrise overlay
media-sound/pykaraoke [3]
[3] /usr/portage/local/layman/sunrise
I just copied "media-sound/pykaraoke" to my local overlay (/usr/local/portage/media-sound/pykaraoke/)
renamed the ebuild to pykaraoke-0.5.ebuild
executed "ebuild pykaraoke-0.5.ebuild digest" et voila
emerge pykaraoke worked like a charme
Richy //hoping this is still of interest |
