|
|
Hey all,
I've got a SunBlade 2500 that that I booted with the install-sparc64-minimal-2006.0.iso. From the boot: prompt I gave it gentoo, and it's hung at ...
Code: |
Loading initial ramdisk....
bootmem_init: Scan sp_banks, init_bootmem(min[100000], bootmap[100314], max[99ff4f])
//lots of free_bootmem( ... lines here
Remapping the kernel... done.

Another option is tftpbooting it?
Have you tried older and other version install disks? _________________ SUN E250 2 x UltrasparcII@400Mhz 512MB RAM 6 x 9GB Kernel 2.6.8 (SMP)

Does anyone know what other image or any flags I might add to the 'boot:' prompt I should try that might fix this, or anyone have gentoo on a SunBlade 2500? Currently, I just type 'gentoo' at the boot: prompt.
Any suggestions/advice much appreciated. |

How much RAM you have installed in your SB2500? If you have over 4G RAM, it might be issue. If that is your case, try decrease amount of RAM to 4G or under and try to boot your macine again.
Another issue might be order or placement of PCI cards. I had troubles booting my SB1000 with Gentoo installation CD's when PCI framebuffer was installed on PCI slot 4 (the lowest slot) and when I moved it up to PCI slot 1, my machine booted up just fine. _________________ Gentoo on x86, sparc, alpha, amd64, embedded |

Please try the latest experimental livecd @ http://dev.gentoo.org/~gustavoz/sparc/experimental/
Feedback is welcome (which kernel worked, none, both, whatever). _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

I tried to boot the "2615" label and got ...
Code: |
Allocated 8 megs of memory at 0x40000000 for kernel
Loaded kernel version 2.6.15
Loading initial ramdisk (840404 bytes at 0x133F802000 phys, 0x40C00000 virt) ...
ERROR: Last Trap: Illegal Instruction
Error -256
|
So then I tried the 2616 label and got ...
Code: |
Allocated 8 megs of memory at 0x40000000 for kernel
Loaded kernel version 2.6.16
Loading initial ramdisk (841045 bytes at 0x133F802000 phys, 0x40C00000 virt) ...
ERROR: Last Trap: Illegal Instruction
Error -256
|
So ... neither. |

If I understand correctly, I'll place an image on the machine where I'm running the ftp daemon and if I can't get any image to boot w/ this machine, just placing it else where won't help. |

The RAM limit shouldn't affect the experimental livecd.
Also, are you using the latest OBP version? _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

There's a newer rev (4.17.1), you can try upgrading (be very careful with silver versus non-silver firmware), but i don't think it'll really help.
SILO 1.4.x for CDs has been pretty spotty so release media is built with 1.2.x which has the 4GB RAM issue.
The latest experimental livecd uses 1.4.11 to see if it helps, but then testing on a 2500 isn't quite the test.
You can try using asr-disable to "remove" ram on your blade 2500 and try to boot 2006.0, later you can surely re-enable the ram and use silo 1.4.11 probably without issues since they mostly/usually affect the ISO (CD) code only. _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

|
|
Hello!
I have Blade 1000 and I am trying to install 2006.1. I have a bootable CD and I have same error as the first poster. I have tried both images on the latest Universal CD. I have also tried the experamental images that Gustavo asked to try. I have 1 GB of memory and 1 CPU. Any thoughts on how to get past this point?
Thanks!

Error as in mapping kernel... OK and nothing else afterwards?
That may be because of an unsupported framebuffer... _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

Hello!
Nope, boot comes to a complete halt. I have PCI Video card with DB 15 connnectors that is my primary display (It has "Wildcat" on the top of the card). I also have a SBUS video card in the box that I am not using as a display. Is there any cmds that I can run to help?
Thanks!

Wildcat? That's pretty much unsupported, that's 3DLabs IIRC.
SBUS? Blade 1000/1500/2500 machines don't have SBUS slots. The 1000 has UPA slots though, that probably means you have a Creator or Elite card in there, which is very likely the one the livecd is picking up. You must either use that or serial console. _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

Right sorry got my Bus names wrong! Thanks for getting back to me quickly! Bad news is that the power supply just went on my Blade. So once it is replaced I will try to identify my video cards and find one that will work.
Thanks! |
