Well, I was doing my upgrade on one of my servers and I got a error. I searched around and found some errors that are close but mine seemed to fail later in the compile, higher line number in the compile. I went back up a little just to make sure I got it all. Here it is:
| Code: | /bin/sh mklibgcc > tmp-libgcc.mk
mv tmp-libgcc.mk libgcc.mk
./xgcc -B./ -B/usr/i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ -isystem /usr/i686-pc-linux-gnu/include -isystem /usr/i686-pc-linux-gnu/sys-include -L/var/tmp/portage/gcc-3.4.5-r1/work/build/gcc/../ld -fno-stack-protector -O2 -DIN_GCC -W -Wall -Wwrite-strings -Wstrict-prototypes -Wmissing-prototypes -Wold-style-definition -isystem ./include -I. -I. -I/var/tmp/portage/gcc-3.4.5-r1/work/gcc-3.4.5/gcc -I/var/tmp/portage/gcc-3.4.5-r1/work/gcc-3.4.5/gcc/. -I/var/tmp/portage/gcc-3.4.5-r1/work/gcc-3.4.5/gcc/../include -g0 -finhibit-size-directive -fno-inline-functions -fno-exceptions -fno-zero-initialized-in-bss -fno-unit-at-a-time -fno-omit-frame-pointer \

I did the gcc-3.4 upgrade a while back and it went fine. I did a revedep-rebuild, emerge -e system then a emerge -e world afterwards so it should all be compiled with the installed version. Here is emerge --info:

I also tried a revdep-rebuild, I hit the tab key on that LOL, anyway, it said everything was fine. Nothing was broke at all, like this:
| Code: | swifty / # revdep-rebuild -p
Configuring search environment for revdep-rebuild
Checking reverse dependencies...
Packages containing binaries and libraries broken by a package update
will be emerged.
Collecting system binaries and libraries... done.
(/root/.revdep-rebuild.1_files)
Collecting complete LD_LIBRARY_PATH... done.
(/root/.revdep-rebuild.2_ldpath)
Checking dynamic linking consistency...
done.
(/root/.revdep-rebuild.3_rebuild)
Assigning files to ebuilds... Nothing to rebuild
Evaluating package order... done.
(/root/.revdep-rebuild.5_order)
Dynamic linking on your system is consistent... All done.

Any ideas? It says it is a bug but I want to make sure before I file one. What you gurus think??
Thanks

dalek,
My first thought wasyou have made gcc for the wrong CPU, but your CFLAGS and USE flages look correct and conservative.
If you rerun the build, does it fail in eactly the same place with the same error ?
If not, its a memory ot thermal problem.
Clean the CPU heatsink with a stiff brush (never a hoover) and run memtest86 from the liveCD. _________________ Regards,

Well, I wouldn't think it is temps. I run folding on this rig 24/7 and have for a while. Right now it is cooler than ever because I used it to rescue my girlfriends windoze XP stuff after windoze did it's normal thing, died from a bug or something, and the case is off at the moment and it is laying on it's side. Also has a ceiling fan blowing air on it too. Lucky thing.
This is my temps, first is CPU and second is inside the case:
| Code: | swifty / # cat temp1
39900
swifty / # cat temp2
27725
swifty / # |
I have compiled several other packages just fine. No errors at all. Just this one is giving me a boo boo. I have tried to compile this a few times but it always errors out. I'm pretty sure it was in the same place too.
Since this is a headless server, no monitor, keyboard or mouse, running memtest may be a problem. Since it uses all the memory most all the time anyway, it looks like it would error on something else too. I looked in the error logs and the only thing in there was the cron jobs and the stupid hald and ivman not working. . . . again. I don't use a CD anyway. Here is the results of free:
| Code: | swifty / # free
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 319784 309680 10104 0 56524 212540
-/+ buffers/cache: 40616 279168
Swap: 294296 64 294232
swifty / # |
It's been like that for a while. It may use a little more or less swap from time to time but that's what it usually looks like.
Any other ideas before I have to pull out a monitor and keyboard?
Thanks

Well, I thought maybe something was broken in another package that it was looking for soooooo I did a emerge -ev system just to try it and see. It failed with the exact same error.
Should I file a bug or is it just me? Oh, no other errors during all the compiling. I don't think it is hardware. It's still running folding too.
Thanks

Well posted bug and was kindly informed that that server does not have a Athlon XP in it. I had changed the make.conf file on the server thinking I was changing the one on my main rig, which has a Athlon XP in it.
< Dale slaps forehead > < also hangs head in shame >
Thanks
