Hi,
I have a very strange problem. Yesterday I shut down system correctly - without any problems etc. Today I run it - everything is ok except one thing. When I run Thunderbird it closes itself after entering main password and while it's trying to download new messages. When I run it from console, here's what I get:
Code:
insane@vanquish ~ $ thunderbird
No running windows found
Warning: unrecognized command line flag -mail
Assertion failure: tm.tm_month > -1 && tm.tm_mday > 0 && tm.tm_hour > -1 && tm.tm_min > -1 && tm.tm_sec > -1, at ../../../../mozilla/nsprpub/pr/src/misc/prtime.c:1558
/usr/libexec/mozilla-launcher: line 119:  8204 Aborted                 "$mozbin" "$@"
thunderbird-bin exited with non-zero status (134)

Does anyone has something similar? I didn't change anything in my system since last launch of thunderbird. It looks like it has some problems with dates but I didn't do anything about it so I'm totally surprised...
I'm using version 1.5-r1 of mail-client/mozilla-thunderbird.

Same here! Problem just started out of the blue.
Code:
$ thunderbird
No running windows found
Assertion failure: tm.tm_month > -1 && tm.tm_mday > 0 && tm.tm_hour > -1 && tm.tm_min > -1 && tm.tm_sec > -1, at ../../../../mozilla/nsprpub/pr/src/misc/prtime.c:1558
/usr/libexec/mozilla-launcher: line 117:  9716 Aborted                 "$mozbin" "$@"
thunderbird-bin exited with non-zero status (134)

Did you find a fix?

I have mozilla-thunderbird-1.5-r2 and mozilla-launcher-1.51. Running Gnome 2.12.2 on AMD64.

Nearly the same error here, but only sometimes:

Code:

Assertion failure: _PT_PTHREAD_MUTEX_IS_LOCKED(mon->lock.mutex), at ../../../../mozilla/nsprpub/pr/src/pthreads/ptsynch.c:546
/usr/libexec/mozilla-launcher: line 117:  8379 Getötet                 "$mozbin" "$@"
thunderbird-bin exited with non-zero status (137)

mike@localhost ~ $ thunderbird
No running windows found
Assertion failure: tm.tm_month > -1 && tm.tm_mday > 0 && tm.tm_hour > -1 && tm.tm_min > -1 && tm.tm_sec > -1, at ../../../../mozilla/nsprpub/pr/src/misc/prtime.c:1558
/usr/libexec/mozilla-launcher: line 117: 10693 Aborted "$mozbin" "$@"
thunderbird-bin exited with non-zero status (134)

Does anyone think this problem has to do with a recent update to gentoo or some bug with the current date?

I noticed most posts on this problem are recent.

If anyone has any ideas please share. I tried to recompile thunderbird, but it did not fix the problem.

I got the exact same error with mozilla-thunderbird-1.5-r3. I use imap and each time I was trying to open a particular folder, Thunderbird was crashing. After doing some research, I realized that it come from some emails in that folder that contain an invalid "Date:" field in a mail header. The hours, minutes and seconds were missing leading zeros. In my case, they were all coming from spams.

Here an example of the "Date:" field that cause the problem:
Code:
Date: Sun, 9 Apr 2006 19: 4:41  0000
Date: Sun, 9 Apr 2006 19: 4:41  0500

but its working fine with

Code:
Date: Sun, 9 Apr 2006 19: 4:41  -0500
Date: Sun, 9 Apr 2006 19:34:41  0000

Interesting! I ended up wiping my entire ~/.thunderbird and rebuilding. :(

I personally would advise a downgrade....
