There seems to be a problem with lesstif and openmotif being installed at the same time. I'm not sure why two motif libraries are installed, but gentoo wants both of them installed. The problem is that revdep-rebuild reports some openmotif binaries as non functional after the installation of lesstif. These binaries are simply example programs, so nothing is really lost. However, openmotif cannot be built if lesstif or openmotif is already installed; It fails with a compile error regarding Xm.h. If you remove lesstif and openmotif, then it compiles fine.

My question is why gentoo feels that both lesstif and openmotif are required, when they both do the same thing. If they are both required, is there any way for them to play nicely?

Since there is probably duplication between both packages, is a program that switches between the two necessary, such as opengl-update or gcc-config?
