Is anyone else having problems getting a working 2.6.14.7 mipsel kernel? It seems to build easy enough but it appears to hang when Colo passes off to the real kernel. All I get on the console (after the bootloader/colo stuff) is a couple of elf32 lines:

Code:
elf32: 00080000 - 0031b01f (802e3000) (fffffff.80000000)
elf32: 80080000 (80080000) 2613380t + 118684t

This system works just fine with a 2.6.13.4 kernel (built with GCC 3.4.4, I think) and I've tried both this kernel's .config and "make cobalt_defconfig" as a basis for a 2.6.14.7 kernel, but no joy. Any suggestions?

hello,

I am running into the same problem. Guess I should have opened a bug for this a few weeks ago...

Regards,

markus

Edit: here we go: Bug #127220

Edit2: could you try out 2.6.15.4? I would do myself, but I'm currently about 100km far away from the machine and rebooting from that distance with the ability to not get back online is no fun...

Thanks Corsair. Are you using distcc and/or did you rebuild your toolchain as part of the GCC 3.4.5 upgrade?

I thought I upgraded correctly, or at least as per http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gcc-upgrading.xml, but now I'm not so positive so I'm going to put this box on a solo tool-chain rebuild just to make sure that isn't the problem. We'll see if that helps.

I guess I should try building a 2.6.14.7 kernel using GCC-3.4.4 too.

This may take a while...

I know what you mean. My RaQ2s are pretty accessible, but I have an offsite RaQ3 that I haven't upgraded from the 2.4 kernel for that very reason.

I'll give the 2.6.15.4 kernel a try, but I'm going to rebuild the GCC-3.4.5 toolchain first and that it should take a while.

Known problem... mips-sources >= 2.6.13.4 is h0rked on Cobalt at last check... but it seems those ebuilds have disappeared, so I'll chase this up. :-)

Thanks Redhatter and Corsair. FWIW, The 2.6.15.4 kernel builds on GCC 3.4.5 and will boot. We'll see if it has any problems over the long-term.

Yeah... I just spoke with Kumba... it seems the issue is fixed with 2.6.15.4...

To be honest, I don't run mips-sources these days... at the moment, my Cobalt server is running Linux/MIPS Git + some small patches. The kernel image for 2.6.15.1 is on my site if you're interested. :-)
