I am using a hp pavilion ze1115 laptop with 2.4.19 vanilla sources and 9-18 acpi patch. My problem is that when I run the computer with the ac-adapter plugged in, the laptop runs very hot. However, when I run on the battery power, the laptop runs about 10 degrees cooler, but the sound has this crackling sound. However, my system does not have cpu-frequency scaling, and I have not set any limits in /proc/acpi. The only thing I can think of is that it is a BIOS issue, but the BIOS does not have any power saving settings. What I would like is for the laptop to run at the cooler "battery state" even with the power plugged in, and would really like to get the sound issue sorted out. The system uses a kt133 chipset. Here is the contecnts of my /proc/pci:

Code:

I have an HP pavilion ze1115 laptop. It came with Windows XP, everything runs fine, however I needed to install some software that would run on Win 2000 but not XP. When I install 2000 I had the same problem that you have now, overheating, freezing and other things. This was with all of the correct drivers. I had to reinstall Windows XP just to get the laptop to function properly. So it could be that it is just a problem with these HP laptops...

HERE'S AN UPDATE:
I now have a working gentoo install on my laptop HP ze1115 using ck-sources. I have a working XConfig and am now emerging KDE. As for the Heat Problems mentioned before, ck-sources has PowerNow! compatibility so it allows the processor to step down to a lower speed when not in use. Right now it seems to be working very well, I'll let you know how it goes once KDE is installed....

Will more than likely be tomorrow.
