HI, I've just got a usb pen drive recently and after going through the
forums and plenty of google searches, I can't figure out why my gentoo
doesn't have /dev/sda4 or something close to it.
I've compiled
sg.o
ide-scsi.o
usbcore into the module
usb-uhci.o / usb-ohci.o
usb-storage
booted my new kernel, but still don't see any /dev/sda*
hum.. would really appreciate the help.

ok, well mine works fine. i don't use modules, i compile everything in my kernel (i don't see the reason that other people use modules, especially people who use modules and put those modules in modules.autoload, but whatever) heres what i have.
/dev/ filesystem
scsi disk support
scsi generic support
usb-devfs (preliminary usb device filesystem)
usb-uhci (you may haven or ehci ohci hardware, so make sure)
usb-mass-storage
whatever filesystem you plan to run on the pen-disk (i use ext3)
that should do it. re-compile your kernel and reboot, and ls -l /dev/sd* and you should be ready to go. |
