i just finished an emerge -e world and was able to build ALL 631 packages. the only problems i had was with the latest ffmpeg which compiled fine after all the other packages were done and with gtkglarea which i needed to grab an overlay for from nesl247's guide (he's collected all the needed overlays). my system seems even faster than b4 nxsty, THANKS AGAIN!! 8)

I don't use Arts however I use the latest of the rest with inline visibility and no issues:

glibc-2.3.91.2006303 overlay, gcc 4.1, nxty binutils overlay.

Previously running 20060207 overlay just fine. Nothing else changed but upgrading from gcc 4.1_pre to gcc 4.1 release.

Problem solved, btw, for anyone else having this issue.

It seems with changes to gcc-config and eselect compiler, GCC 4.1 on AMD64 selects amd_64 as it should for the compiler of choice, but this still doesn't seem to setup the system properly. Originally, gcc-config -l reported:
Code:

Available compilers for CTARGET i686-pc-linux-gnu
  [1]   x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.1.0/x86-vanilla
Available compilers for CTARGET x86_64-pc-linux-gnu

  [6]   x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.5/hardenednossp
  [7]   x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.1.0/amd64-vanilla

Activated profiles:
  x86_64-pc-linux-gnu *     x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.1.0/amd64-vanilla

Looks like it should? Apparently not. Running
Code:
gcc-config 1 && gcc-config 7

to select the x86-vanilla and then back to amd64-vanilla gives:
Code:

Available compilers for CTARGET i686-pc-linux-gnu
  [1]   x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.1.0/x86-vanilla
Available compilers for CTARGET x86_64-pc-linux-gnu

  [5]   x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.5/hardenednopiessp
  [6]   x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.5/hardenednossp

Activated profiles:

  x86_64-pc-linux-gnu *     x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.1.0/amd64-vanilla

And voila, glibc is now compiling again with no 'TLS not found' errors.

Perhaps this is something that needs to be fixed in the GCC 4.1 ebuild?

I was wondering if using this overlay instead of glibc-2.3.6-r3 may fix a problem I have.

I recently upgraded to GCC 4.0.2 from portage and used Nxsty's binutils and qt overlay.

I rebuilt the entire system and only had a few packages with problems (~800 packages). I've been able ot fix everything except OpenOffice.

I can't compile OpenOffice from portage (2.0.1 or 2.0.2) on my system. The old one won't load unless I unset LD_BIND_DIRECT.

Anyone else know if this overlay will possibly fix my issue? Or point me to the place to fix it.

Thanks

I remember I can not emerge openoffice from portage (both 2.0.0 and 2.0.1) since I use this bdirect patch. Also, I don't know if the problem is about using sun-jdk-1.5 as jdk.

Will you provide an ebuild? Not been around long enough to know how fast the portage operators usually are.

I just updated my overlay with one for those who can't wait for portage to get updated (It'll probably take a couple of days).

Having followed this thread for months and having already upgraded machines that should have been left well enough alone, at least by any reasonably sane person, I would definitely qualify as one of the impatient type. Compiling it now on every machine I can get my hands on. Thanks, as always, for your help and effort.

Thank you nxty! I´m a desperate soul and couldn´t wait for portage (I´m still using your glibc 2.3.6-r2 anyway  ) but I´m compiling gcc-4.1 to rebuild the entire system with glibc 2.4 :D
Thank you again for your overlays, makes gentoo more fun.

Did anyone get this working? If so how or what GCC/Glibc are you using to be able to compile Openoffice (not the -bin version).

Thanks.

nxsty: should I rebuild world after rebuilding the toolchain? (emerge glibc && emerge glibc binutils gcc libstdc++-v3 libtool portage && emerge -e world) I need to know because of my guide.

As always, thank you for your hard work.

Edit: Appears that the file is not downloading (glibc-2.3.5-patches-2.3.tar.bz2) because it hits the cudenever.edu server and hangs there.. Maybe you need to change the SRC_URI again like in your .91 ebuild?

I just updated my overlay with one for those who can't wait for portage to get updated (It'll probably take a couple of days).

Sweet (and thanks) - will the binutils overlay still be required :?:

Yes because gentoo has not added the patches into binutils.

Does it not let you continue on? If it does,

Code:
# emerge binutils gcc libstdc++-v3 libtool portage
# emerge -e world

I am assuming you have not re-compiled world with the .91 release correct?

Will you provide an ebuild? Not been around long enough to know how fast the portage operators usually are.

KF

I predict hardmasked portage e-build within hours, ~arch by tommorrow, and glibc 2.4 will make stable in just under a week.

Well, maybe at least the first part. :P

What's your emerge --info? Have you run a emerge --clean to make sure no old version is still installed? All glibc releases are backward compatible so it should work.
