|
|
Hi all
I have got my 17'' monitor and my TV working as Twins with my Nvidia card; also i managed to get them working as standalone screens (two monitors section, two screen sections, two device sections).
The serverlayout section looks as follows
Code: | Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "XFree86 Configured"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
Screen 1 "Screen1" leftOf "Screen0"
InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" |
Now my problem is how do i access the second monitor? I can see two gnome independant screens and all i do with my mouse and keyboard is shown in the 17'' monitor, i do not know how to fire up and application in the TV monitor...
Thanks in Advance.

Just a guess, but how about Alt-F8? |

well, many of them take args such as
Code: | xawtv -display :0.1 |
Otherwise, most times this will also work:
Code: | DISPLAY=":0.1" xawtv |
That works for the 2 display version (which I prefer...overlays work better) |

You want Xinerama.
Code: | startx -- +xinerama |
You can also put xinerama in the XF86Config. |

nonono
not with nvidia binary drivers
they have their own xinerama
if you use X's built-in xinerama, things will be very screwed up
don't do that. |

Hi all, but i am afraid none of them works...
Alt-f8 brings me to a black screen in BOTH monitors
-display:0.1 or DISPLAY=0.1 program does not work, and in case they did, i will run the program in the second display but can not access it with mouse or keyboard.
And Xinerama is not a very good friend of nvidia drivers, 8-(..
Any other ideas? How does people with two monitors & two video cards manage to work with second monitor????

Hmm, I don't know...you sure you can't just move the mouse from one to the other? I had a similar set up a while ago with 2 cards and 2 monitors...X had two seperate desktops but
I could flip between them just by moving the mouse.
Perhaps post your XF86Config-4 for us to look at?
Another idea...have two Xservers running - one on each card. |

with two screen sections and a serverlayout as yours, it should work correctly, but:
it never worked for me with gnome.
try using fluxbox or kde or whatever and see if it works.
I'm going to re-test it with gnome and post my experience.. _________________ Markus Nigbur |

ARG! Sorry guys for making you waste your time, God saves me from my own stupidity... my screen layout sets the 2nd display on the LEFT of the first one... I was trying to access it moving the mouse to the RIGHT... and obviously i went into virtual desktops of screen1.
Moving the mouse to the LEFT make the mouse to enter the 2nd monitor and the keyboard follows the focus, so no problem...
Thanks anyway
