Hi,

I just noticed that my Sun Netra X1 will not shut down completely. Here is the output from serial console:

Code:

netra ~ # poweroff

INIT: Sending processes the TERM signal
INIT: Sending processes the KILL signal
 * Stopping local ...                                                     [ ok ]
 * Stopping vixie-cron ...                                                [ ok ]
 * Stopping sshd ...                                                      [ ok ]
 * Stopping syslog-ng ...                                                 [ ok ]
 * Saving random seed ...                                                 [ ok ]
 * Stopping DDClient ...                                                  [ ok ]
 * Unmounting network filesystems ...                                     [ ok ]
 * Stopping eth0
 *   Bringing down eth0
 *     Shutting down eth0 ...                                             [ ok ]
 * Stopping lo
 *   Shutting down lo ...                                                 [ ok ]
 * Deactivating swap ...                                                  [ ok ]
 * Unmounting filesystems ...                                             [ ok ]
 * Shutting down RAID devices (raidtools) .../dev/md0: successfully stopped.
                             [ !! ]
 * Remounting remaining filesystems readonly ...                          [ ok ]
Power down.
Program terminated
ok

at this stage the fans are still running. Now I do this:

Code:

ok power-off

lom>
LOM event: +96d+6h37m3s host power off
lom>

And as you can see I'm getting to the point the system is completely shut down.

I do remember that this system shut down completely some while ago, i.e. some kernels earlier, but I don't know what I've changed.

Hope someone can help.

Regards,

Markus

I believe there were some kernel changes made a little while back so that servers/headless boxes wouldn't power down on a halt but that desktops would. If I recall correctly, this was to emulate Solaris behavior in similar circumstances (but I could be wrong about that).

Thanks for the info. I searched the kernel changelogs, but didn't found anything that would underline your statement (I actualy don't know what I would search for. I tried 'power', 'sparc' and such things).

Do you know if this is an configureable kernel option? I would realy like to get the old behaviour back.

Regards,

Markus

I don't know if it is configurable. I'd search the sparclinux mailing list as that is where I recall this being discussed.
