I have found using the Preemptive kernel option causes a few network card probs.
The tg3 module for Broadcom cards will load but just wont do anything.

Prism2 based cards also wouldn't work. If you see 'TX sent before association' then it maybe this problem.
I bought another card because I thought my original ZoomAir had borked.

With both cards installed I recompiled gentoo-sources without preemtive kernel selected and they work.

I think the installation guide should really suggest installing vanilla-sources first, then trying gentoo-sources to see if it increases performance and for grsecurity.
