hi,

I'd like to enable ACPI on my IBM Thinkpad.
First, my kernel was 2.4.20-ck6, (actually, I got same error using 2.4.20-gentoo-r2)
and I disabled Symmetric multi-processing support,
enabled Symmetric multi-processing support, Symmetric multi-processing support
in Symmetric multi-processing support.
Besides, I enabled Power Management support and ACPI Support, AC Adapter, Battery, etc in General setup.
I compiled kernel witout error, however, ACPI didn't work for me after rebooting.

Here are dmesg messages -

Code:

# dmesg | grep APM
IBM machine detected. Enabling interrupts during APM calls.
# dmesg | grep ACPI

Anything wrong did I do?
Thanks for any help. :)

Well you only have one cpu, so make sure smp is completely disabled. Then try and compile apm as a module and placing ACPI in the kernel. I think this will work. But I know ACPI has been known to be buggy, and I haven't used it before. So try that. Maybe even do a mrproper before you do it to make sure everything is clean, then do a make menuconfig and recompile like normal.

Thanks, I've tried it.

But I couldn't make ACPI as a module when I did "make menuconfig",
even if I mrproper first.

In my kernel config menu, "Power Management support" entry had a leading [] not <> (module capable),
which means it could only be marked as either built-in or excluded only.
