I am considering purchasing a powershot a100. I see that it is not listed on gphoto's "supported cameras" list. Has anyone been able to make it work well? The a10 looked good, until I found out it was discontinued. I saw people on these forums recommend the s40, until I saw it sells for $420... Any ideas? |

good news! at least to me, it looks like you're wrong!
http://gphoto.sourceforge.net/proj/libgphoto2/support.php
looks good to me, eh?? gphoto2 is nice. remember to set USE="gphoto2" and rebuild kdemultimedia, if you'd like access to your camera in konqueror.
cheers...

Duh! I was looking at this list:
http://www.gphoto.org/cameras.html
I guess there is a difference between gphoto2 and gphoto 2.0!
Hmmm... I ran "emerge gphoto2" and then "gphoto2 --list-cameras" and the a100 isn't there... am I missing something? |

doh! looks like you need the gphoto2-2.1.1 ebuild, which will install libgphoto2 as well. try:
Code: | $ cd /usr/portage/media-gfx/gphoto2
$ ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge -p gphoto2-2.1.1.ebuild |
.. and then do it without the -p when you feel ready =)
that did the trick for me, as i now see the a100 on the camera list. (i still can't vouch for how well it works... but i've got a canon powershot g2 and it works well. gphoto2 seems to be a very solid package,s o you can probably trust that it lists support). now it shows:
Code: | Number of supported cameras: 295
Supported cameras:
....
"Canon PowerShot A10"
"Canon PowerShot A100" |
cheers... |
