hi everyone

I've always liked the default debian local start page

It's a great ad for debian (you see it everywhere!) and a good resource for finding debian info.

I've made a gentoo-variant, and wondered what people thought

I use it as my home page (there's some non gentoo stuff on there, as well as loads of google searches) and wondered what people think - maybe we could include it with gentoo apache installs?

The HTML is valid, thought the page isn't pretty :)

Cheers

It looks nice, but I would remove the search boxes, and the other stuff not related to Gentoo, Apache or GNU before making it the default Apache home page on Gentoo.

Neat. If you want the Apache ebuild maintainers to consider it, you should submit it to bugs.gentoo.org

to ugly to be described but it does the job...

I would switch the links and search engine links - it makes more sense for me to have them the otherway around.

Some more suggestions:

Move the right Gentoo logo to the place of the left one, and remove the left one.

Make the Gentoo/Apache logos link to gentoo.org and apache.org respectively.

Instead of "Local Gentoo Start Page" you could just say "Gentoo", the rest is kind of self-explanatory.

Also, I agree that switching places for the right and left column makes sense.

much better now...

White is hard on the eyes, maybe a grey toned bg would be nicer -- it's should be slightly off white at least, I really like the grey nuance the board uses, it's prefectly toned for my eyes (or the otherway around)

done, thx for more good suggestions

same url as before.

do you think it's worth putting a request in to bugs.gentoo for it to be shipped with apache? do you think it could be useful? (looks good in links and lynx, btw :)

I don't think it would be a good idea to ship it with apache...

>I don't think it would be a good idea to ship it with apache...

wrong phrasing (on my part) maybe

i meant might it be a good thing for it (or a much better implementation of it by someone that can script HTML:) to be in the apache ebuild, as the debian local start page is with debian's apache .deb?

or maybe you knew i meant that and thought it was still a bad idea..

no worries, i use (a version of it) as my home page at work and at home, and it saves me time instead of typing urls/ going to bookmarks, maybe some other people will find it useful.

I just found your proposition on bugs.gentoo.org and find it a great idea. I'm gonna make it the base of my homepage :)

Thx Georgie

Regards,
Sébastien.

It's better than the default apache start page put it that way so why not have it included in the gentoo ebuild.
