|
|
Hello,
From frying pan to fire. *Sighs*
After doing and emerge -p system, I got the feedback to downgrade almost 22 packages. I listed my concerns in a thread on this same forum, seeking advice as to whether to downgrade or not. I got no response, so proceeded to downgrade all 22 packages using the emerge -u system command. It is probably one of the painful decisions I've made in my computing career.
glibc and python happened to be one of the packages that needed to be downgraded. So much for the 'intelligent' portage system, glibc got downgraded first without any problems. And so did many other packages. A package failed to emerge properly so I changed the flag options and tried to emerge again.
I couldn't the version of python installed on my system isn't compatible with the downgraded version of glibc. Yes, I almost burst into tears, it's taken so long to get Gentoo installed and so much hassles.
Please, Please, Please can someone tell me what to do, I can't emerge or do anything. I'm as good as finisthed. _________________ simple, sleek and sexy text editor for gnome

Hey mate, don't break out the tissues yet, all is not lost!
Have a look here: Code: | cat /usr/portage/sys-apps/portage/files/README.RESCUE | and follow the simple instructions. Once that is done, you should be able to: Code: | # emerge rsync
# emerge portage
# emerge glibc | and start building your system back up (i.e. upgrade everything you downgraded).
Good luck! Any more problems, just post back and we'll see if we can help! |

Keep in mind if portage wants to downgrade lots of stuff it is probably because you changed you system profile from unstable to stable or changed you package.mask so always check those first before you start downgrading. |
