Mouse Problems in Xfree

Hey, I got a problem with my mouse's

I am on a dell inspiron 8100 laptop, and when i startx

My touchpad or my usb mouse both work, but whenever I move either, the cursor just shoots to the top of the screen and slides back and forth across the top of the screen and wont move down at all....

Also incidently, once i got my usb mouse to work, I cant figure out how to enable my touchpad again 8/

Any help for either of these problems would be fantastic

if you are using "synaptic" driver I have the same problem, I just use the ps/2 protocol and mouse driver.
