Anyone got any advice on places to buy a laptop where I can either get Gentoo preinstalled, or have it come with no OS preinstalled (cheaper). I'm looking to replicate the functionality and power of my now-inferior Desktop system:
**target price: $750-$1250
* 1.1GHz AMD CPU
* 256MB SD-RAM (would prefer DDR-RAM)
* 15" monitor (target resolution: at 1280x1160 or whatever..the on right above 1024x768)
* 20GB hard drive, preferrably ULTRA ATA-166
* 32MB GeForce card (GeForce 4 Go 32MB?)
* CD-RW at 24x8x4x or whatever
* ability to connect to serial/parallel/usb devices and use them
* ability to use WiFi (I have a cable modem at home...possibly WiFi to that?)...also connect to Unviersity ethernets
Any suggestions? _________________ Become one with the command-line. |

check out either pricewatch.com or the stores on ebay. ebay has alot of smalltime retailers new selling stuff dirt cheap. you might even be able to get all that you listed for cheaper |

These guys sell all of their lappys with your choice of OS, 'none' being a choice
I own one of their machines and a company that I consult for has two (bought on my recommendation). They all work great. Remember to check the specs for the model that interests you and make sure that all the hardware is Linux compatible. |
