Is it possible, on a SunFire V880 server with Solaris 9, from a SunRay terminal, to install gentoo in a folder to chroot into it ?
I mean,
Create a "gentoo" directory in my home,
install gentoo in it,
chroot me in it,
use it !
Thanks alot

Ehm, this is just the normal method of installing gentoo, isn't it?
Just follow the install manual..... You don't need a kernel, if you are running in chroot.
Maybe you get problem extracting the tarball as user, because of the /dev permissions.
I don't know zilch about sparc architectures, but the install process should be as the i386 one in general....
Is this a trick question?? Is there any deeper meaning or joke i don't get?? (No offense meant, just curious) _________________ Citadel Groupware | Avahi Howto |

I think you might want to bind the virtual filesystems similar to how they do it in the AMD64 32-bit chroot guide |

Well, I'm a normal user on a sparc system.
We are all connecting from SunRay terminals http://www.hte.com.cy/images/sunray-family.jpg Like the first and second one at the left.
I was curius if it was possible to mount the proc as a user in solaris 9,
mount the /dev , etc.
Anyway, the best is to try so i'll try it tomorrow morning and tell you if it worked
Thanks !

He's talking about solaris, and the answer is no, as long as the machine is running solaris you can't run linux binaries in it (yeah it's possible on x86 with the linux binary emulation or something like that, but that doesn't exist for sparc). _________________ Gustavo Zacarias
